We’re pleased to announce BankID BankAxept as the new owner of Criipto!
The Nordic market leader from Norway is acquiring Criipto to create a stronger European position within digital identity solutions, and to add a unique product platform to their portfolio.
A strategic and cultural fit
We’ve had a long history of collaboration with BankID BankAxept, including the secure distribution of BankID with biometrics in Norway. This acquisition represents a strategic and cultural fit, with BankID BankAxept offering market solidity and leadership in Norway, and Criipto providing speed, innovation, and a developer-friendly platform.
“We expect to strengthen our position with BankID BankAxept as our owners. They are competent buyers who know us and our products, and we share ambitions for the future. We plan to accelerate our product development and expand into new European markets”, says Niels Flensted-Jensen, CEO of Criipto.

From this point forward, BankID BankAxept will be able to provide BankID with biometrics directly to their customers through Criipto’s platform. In the future, the collaboration with BankID BankAxept will focus on developing new identity solutions and entering new markets across Europe.
Øyvind Westby Brekke, CEO of BankID BankAxept, explains the future ambition of the collaboration.
“This match is one of ambition. BankID BankAxept has not acquired Criipto merely to consolidate our position in the Nordics and gain access to direct sales of BankID. Our primary focus is our shared ambition for a European presence and the development of products that incorporate the latest advancements in the identity industry and upcoming EU regulations.”
Criipto will continue operating as an independent company to ensure speed and innovation. All customers of Criipto will enjoy the same service as before, but now with even stronger support to develop new products and features.

BankID BankAxept is the Norwegian market leader within digital identification, electronic signatures, and card payments in Norway. BankID is developed by the Norwegian banks and has existed since 2004. It is the national electronic identity in Norway with currently 4.5 million users.
In 2022, BankID BankAxept introduced BankID with biometrics. BankID with biometrics can be used with the BankID app, which has gradually replaced the SIM-card based Mobile BankID. BankID with biometrics is easier to use and ensures faster logins and authentications.
